Confident kids are happy kids.
Confident kids are happy kids – and happy kids are generally more confident.
Our programs for kids create a clear circle of self-perpetuating confidence building, and our skilled instructors expedite and enhance this cycle in children and young adults.
A typical day for children and teens is busy, and includes school, home life, sports, interaction with family and friends, and a lot of communication with adults. Very often, a young person finds themselves entering into an unfamiliar situation or circumstance. An insecure child will tend to be more withdrawn, uncomfortable, and flighty. Childhood is the precursor to adulthood – and this transition happens in a relatively short period of time. Tendencies acquired when young often carry over into adolescence, and onto young adulthood. The older that one gets, the more challenging it is to break habit, and negative self-evaluations of oneself. Martial art training at a young age creates a solid base of confidence that will be built upon year after year.
And looking one step further – a martial arts student learns that the mind controls the body. A calm, peaceful, self-assured, confident person has a positive outlook of life, and is healthy both mentally and physically.
Where to Start with Building Confidence?
Initially, when starting a martial art class, many kids are a bit shy. It can be from the new environment, other kids they don’t know, or a more formal structure that they may have not have been in before. That’s why it is so important to have an instructor who is not only highly skilled in the art, but also extremely experienced in teaching it to children.
At Tiger Schulmann’s Martial Arts schools, your kids are training with top level instructors who are experts in both. Whatever tendencies your child is displaying in initial classes – they have witnessed it before, and know how to guide them to rise above anything negative that can inhibit their ability to shine in class. From day one, encouragement and personal attention is generously provided to ensure that the new young student finds themselves in a comfort zone as quickly as possible.
Once that is successfully established, the teacher can start pushing limits, while always being aware of where best to set the bar. This can be a different height for each student, and at different points in their training trajectory. At each new plateau of learning, increased overall confidence is there with it – like a glove that wraps around a hand.
Classes are fun, and not intimidating. Students make friends and strong bonds with others in a welcoming and nurturing atmosphere.
Confidence Continues to Build
Parents will notice the results outside of the martial art practice. The confidence becomes one with the young person.
Parents will become aware of their child having:
• Increased eye contact with others.
• More engaged conversation with adults.
• Less likelihood to be affected negatively by kid to kid criticism or bullying.
• Diminished need to become overly competitive with peers.
• A general well rounded confident approach to their entire day.
A confident kid will also do better in school, and take a more focused approach to doing homework and after school or weekend activities. You will see the real person in them emerge, and their own unique personality develop in a very positive way.
Becoming Confident Senior Students
Longevity of training will determine how advanced the student ultimately becomes. The physical skills are one element, but the internal aspect of martial art training is equally important. It is a mind and body combination, and it takes time to develop both to a high level. Often one has to catch up to the other throughout years of commitment to practice. At some point in time, a plateau is reached where the student has put it all together, and they progress to become a senior student. It will be obvious to their instructors, themselves, and to their fellow students.
Once there, a senior student will naturally display that strong sense of confidence to others because it will have already become a strong foundation for their individual practice. It is also part of them in everything thing they do or accomplish. The seniors will help to show the path that the newer students will want to follow.
Beyond Initial Confidence
While the confidence felt from the culmination of years of martial arts training is the ultimate goal, the initial stages of confidence building can be felt right away. At Tiger Schulmann’s, we instill the confidence which helps kids lead successful, happy lives. Focus, discipline, tenacity, and the ability to protect themselves helps kids achieve their goals at school and beyond.
Teaching children is a skill that our instructors have three decades of experience in. That has shaped a program that we feel is the absolute best offered anywhere.
Each of our schools is owned and run by a dedicated Tiger Schulmann’s instructor who has dedicated their life to rigorous, martial arts training for over 10 years. Each instructor still advances their skill level every week with Master Daniel “Tiger” Schulmann and his brother Ron, an 8th degree black belt. The instructors then bring back that knowledge to teach their students. Tiger Schulmann’s techniques really work. That is continuously proven in so many ways, including our Fight Team’s many championship belts in competition.
No Time Like the Present To Start Building Confidence
When a martial arts student expressed to his teacher that he regrets he didn’t start training sooner – the master simply replied, “You start when you start.”
When someone starts at a young age they can really excel during their formative years.
