Jimmie Rivera vs Urijah Faber – 135lbs

Rivera wins via Unanimous Decision

Jimmie Rivera entered the octagon a man on a mission, looking to cement his status as a top fighter in the Bantamweight division. Standing in his way, was MMA legend and the former face of the WEC, Urijah Faber. Faber entered the octagon ranked the #2 bantamweight fighter in the UFC and saw a win over Rivera as another feather in the cap of his illustrious career. Rivera knew he couldn’t let this golden opportunity slip by and lived up to his reputation as a fighter who rises to the occasion, fighting up to and above his opponents abilities.

The bout started out with a feeling out process with both fighters respecting each other capabilities. Rivera soon began finding his range by landing thunderous leg kicks and crisp technical boxing. Faber struggled to find consistent offense as Rivera’s counter striking and pressure kept him at bay.

By round 2, it was clear Rivera was the superior fighter between the two. Another thunderous leg kick by Rivera grounded the MMA legend, and his volume of strikes really started adding up. Up 2 rounds to 0, Rivera overcame an unfortunate eye poke that potentially put the entire contest in doubt. Once cleared to continue, Rivera picked up where he started. Overall, Rivera soundly out struck, out-boxed, and out-wrestled Faber en route to an unanimous decision.

A tremendous victory for the Tiger Schulmann’s Gramercy Head Instructor, a victory that should have Jimmie Rivera knocking on the door of a title shot and a top 5 ranking in the world.
