Discipline - Do you have it? PT 1

The Tiger Schulman’s MMA program has done wonders for all of its students and has brought about some great success stories within the organization. We have had countless stories about how TSMMA has changed the lives of many individuals and I am honored to be a part of such a prestigious group of people. Whether it is making someone feel more confident in themselves, developing self discipline in their life or helping them lose weight, TSMMA has become part of so many people’s lives and will continue to develop ordinary and average people into amazing students and human beings. As a former pro bodybuilder and D.A.R.E police officer, I know what it takes to be dedicated and disciplined to something that you love doing. I know what it takes to develop a passion for something and do it; day in and day out. When I look at all the instructors, students and employees involved in TSMMA, I notice that passion in every single one of them; man, woman or child, everyone who follows through with it has fun in the program, gets in shape and learns some valuable lessons about themselves and about life in general. With that being said, I always get questions from people who are interested in taking the program. But, the question that I love to hear is: why do I love what I do and how do I discipline myself to do it every day? What is even better is the reaction that I get after I give them the answer.

When you first look at TSMMA as an outsider looking in, you view the commercials and see the students punching and kicking the bags and gloves. You may say to yourself as you are sitting home watching TV, “Hey that looks like fun, but I could never bring myself to do it because [fill in the blank with whatever excuse you want to use].” But, when you do step into a school and experience a class for yourself, you understand the components of what makes this program so successful. Not only are you learning a valuable life skill, self defense, but you are also learning something about yourself; maybe something you have never known about yourself before: the idea that you can be a part of something that so many people think is important. You feel a sense of pride when you leave the class and you can’t wait to put your uniform on again. The feeling of self accomplishment and self worth really is evident in you each and every class. Now you don’t laugh every time you bow to your fellow students and your instructors; now you understand how important it is for each and every person to succeed in whatever goal they have set forth to make themselves into a better person. You are a part of something important, most importantly; you are part of something that is important to YOU.

Secondly, you are learning self defense, a life skill that will possibly save your life someday. No one ever expects to be raped, mugged or be attacked until it actually happens. TSMMA prepares you for these emergency situations and teaches you how to stay calm in these times and the proper tactics that will help you stay alive. No matter what gender, race or ethnicity you are, anyone can be put into a self-compromising situation and when that happens, TSMMA will save your life.

In addition to the life skills, the accomplishments that you achieve and the goals that you reach will make you a better person. Whether you are someone who wants to lose weight because you are tired of being out of shape and lazy, or if you are a parent who wants to teach your child the discipline and self esteem, the program is tailored to meet all of these needs. It is a great feeling when you see the number on the scale decrease every week or when you see your child come home from school with better grades. This is a program geared towards everyone, no matter what their goals are. And when your fellow students recognize these accomplishments and commend you for them, it is a great feeling that someone other than yourself notices the hard work and discipline you have put forth.

Tiger Schulmann’s is a mixed martial arts program and a business. BUT, when you become involved you will notices how it makes average people, amazing. You are part of a family that will help you accomplish what you thought to be impossible. You can’t ask for anything more than that.
This is the answer I give when someone asks me what keeps me going to TSMMA: Just because it makes me a better person.
