“…I Have Lost Over 30 lbs, and am In the Best Shape of My Life.”

Ramsey BEFORE AND AFTER

BY: April Millian – TSMMA Ramsey

I will be celebrating my 2nd anniversary with TSMMA at the end of May. In that time I have lost over 30 lbs, and am in the best shape of my life.

I have struggled with my weight since I was a young child. I was 10 years old the first time I was on Weight Watchers. Throughout my life I have tried many different weight loss/management plans. Most of them worked for a while, then … didn’t. When I turned 30, I decided that 30 years was too long to be fat. I needed to do something about it, and this time I was serious. It took about a year, but the good old-fashioned, eat less / work out more plan seemed to work. I lost around 70 pounds and felt great.

Over the next 6 years I managed to maintain this weight loss, give or take 5 pounds. I was taking classes at my local gym, and watching what I was eating, but could never break the plateau that I had hit. Then the unthinkable happened. I started to gain back some of the weight. Try as I might, I couldn’t stop it. When I had gained back 20 lbs, I decided that something had to change.

After my first trial class, I knew I was hooked. This wasn’t a boring workout.

One of the classes I particularly enjoyed at the gym was a kickboxing class. It wasn’t a “real” kickboxing class, but I do love to hit things. That’s when I decided to check out Tiger Schulmann’s. After my first trial class, I knew I was hooked. This wasn’t a boring workout. It was challenging but doable and I felt great. As time progressed, I started the intermediate kickboxing classes and then grappling. The belt system is a great incentive as well. The pride I feel when Sensei advances me to my next belt is one of the best feelings ever. It encourages you to not be satisfied with just doing the minimum, to work hard to reach that next level.

The people here at Tiger Schulmann’s have become family. We encourage and help each other out.

The people here at Tiger Schulmann’s have become family. We encourage and help each other out. The higher belts are always willing to give advice to lower belts and genuinely care about everyone here. I have made some wonderful friends. Sensei Rapoport is great as well. He is always available when you need help with your technique or even your diet.

I will be celebrating my 2nd anniversary with TSMMA at the end of May. In that time I have lost over 30 lbs, and am in the best shape of my life. I know I could not have done it on my own. Kickboxing is a permanent part of my life and I couldn’t be happier than to be a part of TSMMA.

“…Russell is Now More Confident, More Disciplined and Excited About Physical Fitness and Activity”

By: Jeffrey and Melissa Novak TSMMA East Brunswick

I am writing to let you know how pleased our family is that our son, Russell, has become a part of the Tiger Schulmann’s family. We signed him up in November of 2012 hoping he would learn a little self control and he has learned that and a whole lot more. Russell is now more confident, more disciplined and excited about physical fitness and activity.

“Russell is now more confident, more disciplined and excited about physical fitness and activity.”

Your positive attitude and high expectations have really encouraged Russell to do his best. He is upset with himself and works to formulate a plan for improvement when you make suggestions or need to redirect his behavior and he is beaming with pride and excitement each of the many times your praise him for his efforts. As parents we are over the moon with excitement.

“The coach was amazed at how much Russell’s focus, self control and strength has improved”.

While Russell’s family has all noticed his improvement in these areas others are starting to notice too! Russell goes to a basketball clinic once a week. The sessions ended in mid-November so the coaches could coach high school teams and have just recently resumed in April. The coach of this clinic was amazed at how much Russell’s focus, self control and strength has improved since November. We credit this to your efforts during class.

So what the entire Novak family and Grandma want to say is “thank you” for all that you have done to encourage and support our son mentally, physically and emotionally. We look forward to a long relationship with Tiger Schulmann’s.

Best regards,

Jeffrey and Melissa Novak

Defeating Bullying Through MMA

By Current News No Comments

By :TSMMA Cherry Hill

1 out of 6 children are getting bullied regularly. Unfortunately, Jeremy was the 1. He had been bullied by kids in his school repeatedly, both verbally and physically. That is why his parents decided to enroll him into Tiger Schulmann’s MMA in Cherry Hill. Jeremy is a very smart kid, but was always very shy around other people and a little timid during confrontations. Building up his confidence and ability to defend himself was the main goal for his parents because they didn’t want anything to happen to him like what they’ve been hearing on the news.

“1 out of 6 children are getting bullied regularly.”

Becoming a confident kid takes becoming tough physically and also mentally. If you aren’t tough mentally, you will never be able to push yourself far enough to become tough physically too. The mental toughness starts with having self-discipline, which Jeremy definitely had. He focused on the techniques and moves being shown from day one and never gave up until he got them, all the while doing it with a smile on his face. Slowly, you saw a transformation from the shy kid in the back never making eye contact or speaking up to the one answering all the questions and wanting to demonstrate in front of the whole class how to do the combinations.

“..when he was confronted by those same bullies that hurt him in the past…he stood tall and defended himself and hasn’t had another bullying issue since.”

That mental toughness pushed Jeremy, nicknamed “Bulldog”, to become tough physically too. His punches and kicks became very strong and powerful, while also developing his ground defense in grappling class too. His final transformation happened when he was confronted by those same bullies that hurt him in the past and this time rather than giving in, he stood tall and defended himself and hasn’t had another bullying issue since. He will be taking that toughness to his first competition in June at the Challenge of Champions. This is also while Bulldog recently earned his Tiger Schulmann’s High White Belt. So proud of you Bulldog. Congratulations.

There are plenty of other kids out there that are currently going through what Jeremy went through. Just like him, mixed martial arts is the solution to that problem. On May 22nd, Tiger Schulmann’s MMA  will be hosting a Bully Shield event teaching how to deal with bullying. Click HERE to find out more about it.

Shane Burgos (TSMMA Woodbury) vs Aldo Oranvil – 145lb Title Fight

“Hurricane” Shane Burgos emerges victorious his 8th amateur MMA bout this weekend at the Ring Of Combat Amateur event in Metuchen, NJ.

Round 1: The exchange started with Oranvil, the wrestler, attacking first. Shane was taken down but quickly returned to his feet. Shane controlled Oranvil up against the cage and ultimately landing his own takedown, securing the judges score card for the round.

Round 2: Shane started off the second round letting his hands go a little more easily. Shane secured yet another take down in the second round and held a beautiful top position. Shane worked from mount to side mount, working both the D’arce choke and the Americana arm lock. He finally sunk in a deep D’arce but Oranvil was able to fight it off until the end of the round.

Round 3: Shane started this one off even better than the second throwing great combinations with punches and kicks. A big slam take down by Burgos puts the two back in familiar territory with Shane on top. This time, however, Burgos sinks that D’arce choke in too deep for Oranvil to escape and he taps via submission with 45 seconds left in the round.

Shane Burgos has now an unblemished record of 8-0 in the amateur MMA Circut, and now the ROC Amateur 145lb champion!

Congratulations to Shane and everyone at his school @ TSMMA Woodbury

Shane Burgos vs Aldo Oranvil – 145lb Title Fight

Excerpt by GFL.tv

ROC AM Featherweight Title on the line, Champion Shane Burgos (6-0) fights Aldo Oranvil (2-0) in a battle of undefeated fighters. Burgos has been on a tear as he is always in attack mode. Burgos has some of the best standup striking in the division and his grappling and wrestling are equally as good. Burgos is another one of those fighters you can see is ready to make the leap to the professional ranks. Standing in his way of another title defense is Oranvil who comes into the fight with less experience but having the same results. Oranvil is a grinder and uses solid wrestling and positioning to dominate his opponents over the course of an entire fight. Oranvil will be stepping up in competition, but he has shown that he is capable of defeating even the best at 145 lb. That theory will be tested once again when he fights Burgos.

…”Family History Shows I Need to Exercise and Stay Healthy for My Heart to Live Longer than 50″

By Current News No Comments

Written by John T: – TSMMA Wayne

1 year ago this April I began training at Tiger Schulmann’s MMA in the hopes to find an exercise or workout routine that would stick. Family history shows I need to exercise and stay healthy for my heart to live longer than 50, so this is important. The gym is incredibly boring, and unless you have someone training you, impossible to stick with (for me anyway). I have been in and out of gyms for at least 10 years, working out 3 or 4 months at a time. Needless to say, Tiger Schulmann’s did the trick.

Family history shows I need to exercise and stay healthy for my heart to live longer than 50, so this is important.

I’ve never been so motivated to workout in all my life. The classes are far from easy, but they are fun, motivating, and encouraging and most of all, takes my mind away from the typical stresses of my daily life of running a business and raising a family for an hour a day. I started out taking 2 classes per week and ‘chomped at the bit’ constantly to improve my skill and excel into advanced classes like intermediate kickboxing and grappling. Now, 1 year later, training 5 days a week in all of those! I’d train more if time allowed! I don’t think I’ve ever been to the gym 5 days consecutively in a single week.

I started out taking 2 classes per week and ‘chomped at the bit’ constantly to improve my skill and excel into advanced classes like intermediate kickboxing and grappling.

Granted, I have tremendous respect for the 4th degree Master Instructor teaching the classes and his teaching style all together, which I think is what makes these classes so beneficial, worth while, and fun. Training with such an achieved individual gives me the motivation to get to class on a daily basis and be ready to learn. The classes are a small price to pay for such amazing instruction.

So a year in now and loving it! My goal is no longer to get the workout I need to stay healthy, it’s to become a better martial artist, and maybe win a tournament or two!

John had enrolled his child a few months previous to enrolling himself. He has been a constant fixture in the school since then, and even made the cut for a recent commercial that was filmed at our headquarters. He has made tremendous progress in his martial arts in a very short time, with much more to come! – TSMMA Wayne
