Weight Loss: Losing Weight is Easy

Let me be the first to say that this is not a success story. Sure I’ve lost some weight but I haven’t reached my goal. I have this image of myself in my head that I aspire to look like. And at this current moment I look more like him, but not like him exactly. I resemble the squishy version of him. Not too long ago I looked like two of him, arm wrestling over whether or not to have a slice of cheese cake. One side would win, then I’d still eat the cake. And all of me would lose.

 

Weight loss is all about diet, discipline, and vision. You have to eat how this new you eats. Close your eyes and see what they look like. Imagine what they eat at dinner. Then open your eyes and see what’s on your plate and make the corrections. I messed up more times than I care to share because I never fully committed. I would kind’ve commit. I won’t take all the blame and say that I “knew” all the right choices to make and that I “knew” when I was eating something wrong. Thats bs. We’re all human. Every single one of us has habits. If you’ve been out of shape for most of your life, then I’m going to safely assume that you’ve never truly known how to eat properly. I was one of those people that knew to eat more vegetables then would douse them in dressing. I was one of those chubby kids that would order a deli sandwich on a roll with mayo and cheese because it was healthier than McDonalds. You lose weight when you recognize what it is that got you fat or kept you fat in the first place.

My tip: I like to train with people who rank higher than I do. It’s a natural challenge.

Becoming overweight is linked to bad eating habits and stress. I put myself in a happier space and lost weight. I identified the poor habits that I practiced, changed them and lost weight. The actual process of burning weight is connected to your metabolic rate AND digestion. A lot of the junk that we eat clogs our intestine, slows down our digestion and turns our potential garden of eden insides into a junk yard. I don’t care how nice the car looks, in a junk yard: it’s junk. You’ll lose so much weight the minute you remove extra sweets. Your belt buckle will have to poke through the next hole as you learn to cut your plates in half. Don’t get me started on the benefits of regulating carbs.

 

Weight Loss: Train With Someone Better Than You 2

My tip: I like to train with someone who is just as passionate or more passionate than I am. This makes the training intense.

 

It’s not hard to lose weight. It’s hard to break bad habits. These bad habits sabotage our progress. We;ll drag ourselves to the gym, put forth a lot of effort, then erase all that progress within the next few hours, by eating poor meal A. You can workout 5 days a week, drink 2 beers a day, and make no progress. Slight commitment to a diet will result in minimal progress and the lingering frustration of a weight plateau. I lost weight by making small changes. My coffee went from creamy goodness to black. My salads went from ranch sunday’s to healthier blends of spinach, other veggies and meat (trust the meat for most of your flavor). I was never a big soda drinker, but I discovered that my favorite soda (root bear) had 74 mg of sugar in 1 BOTTLE. I was drinking carbonated cake. Know exactly what you are eating. Know exactly how it will affect your progress. Food should be looked at more as fuel and nothing more. What are you trying to do and how can you eat to get there? Identify your emotional state. When all of these areas are in sync, you will become confident and your body will shrink. You’ll poop a lot (I’ve literally finished reading a book that I assigned just for bathroom reading). You’ll sweat more than you know. And as you stay on the correct path your body will shrink into this hidden version of you that was there all along. He/she was hiding in your stomach under that one leaf of spinach you ate. He/she (lets call it Alex) used that spinach leaf as a shield as your insides had a forecast of hail tostitos and mild oreos hurricanes. Alex broke off the stem of that spinach leaf and wielded it as a sword against the ferocious hagen daz snowmen that didn’t have much stamina but were deadly. Ok I’m getting carried away. I apologize.

 

Your weight loss is up to you. Your journey starts right now. And before some voice comes into your head giving you a hard time let these phrases be the internal bouncer to your healthy night club: You will do it. It’s not hard.

 

After Weight Loss: Training With Senpai

My tip: I envision success. I am extremely competitive with Senpai Foote, mostly because he bests me in every category. After this training he was sweating. For me that was a small victory.

 

P.s.

We always have a choice. This choice is our power. Choose to eat healthy. I mean it. Do whatever you have to do to make the healthy choice over the unhealthy choice. I have literally stood in 7 Eleven, at midnight, with a sugar craving and a Reese’s in my hand, as I (in a low tone) shared some less than favorable words with the Reese’s. Did I curse? Maybe. But did I eat the Reese’s? No. We all have a choice. Make the one’s necessary to fulfill the goal.

Women’s Kickboxing Seminar Also Teaches Safety in Wayne NJ

For thirty years now, women around the northeast have sat in on Tiger Schulmann’s WomanSafe Seminar to learn about awareness and tips to stay safe.  A two part seminar involving women’s kickboxing and a lecture on safety.

Protection from violence most definitely starts with awareness.  A healthy dose of women’s kickboxing doesn’t hurt though. What better way to protect yourself and loved ones then with the knowledge of knowing how to be more aware of your surroundings and skills to defend yourself if all else fails.

Self Defense and Personal Safety Seminar

Women have always been a big part of Tiger Schulmann’s enrollment for decades now, a great way to stay in shape as well as learn women’s kickboxing and real life self defense concepts.  Each year around the holidays the instructors at Tiger Schulmann’s open their schools to the communities for a free Women Safety seminar.  

Profiles of violent perpetrators and tips on awareness as well as a hands on self defense and women’s kickboxing class are brought out during this 90 minute seminar.  The instructor in the Wayne NJ location who teaches this class has also taught a 1,000 member group in Central Park, and appeared on Good Day New York and the Today Show.  Credentials illustrating this seminar is not to be missed!

Self Defense and Personal Safety Seminar

After the first part of the seminar, the discussion, is over the group will get on a pair of boxing gloves and learn some authentic women’s kickboxing techniques.  Once the blood is flowing a few close range defense techniques will also be explained and practiced.

Exercise Your Way To Lower Cholesterol With Kickboxing

Everyone knows exercise is good for you. Adults also know that cholesterol, specifically LDL or low-density lipoprotein, is bad for us. In fact researchers are finding exercise can help lower LDL’s naturally.

Cholesterol was a topic that was born out of our countries middle class. The 1950’s led to higher consumption of meat products. Meat is the source of cholesterol. When Doctor’s saw a huge increase in the number of heart attacks, research showed the link to cholesterol and plaque building in blood vessels. Specifically Doctor’s began to saw it was LDL’s that led to greater risk of heart disease.

Dr. Amit Khera has researched the specific effect of exercise in lowering cholesterol.

 

So how do we combat it? By eating less meat? That’s one answer, but avoiding meat adds a different set of issues. For those of us who can eat chicken daily, or love a good steak there are plenty of other options.

When research first began on lowering cholesterol it centered on the effect of dietary changes combined with exercise. So science didn’t have a clear indication of what role exercise alone was playing. Now that has begun to change.

 

Kickboxing Is An Exercise Program You Won’t Have To Dread

 

Now that research is being done. And their are a couple of clear ways that exercise helps you to lower LDL’s.

According to a Doctor of Prevantitive Cardiology, working out helps stimulate enzymes that help move LDL’s (bad cholesterol) out of your blood stream and into your liver. Your liver then uses it to help your digestive system or simply gets it out of your body.

LDL’s and HDL’s (good cholesterol) travel through the blood stream on protein particles. Those protein particles if small enough can lodge into the lining of your heart or blood vessels and set up shop. This build up can eventually constrict the flow of blood and lead to heart attacks or stroke. Exercise in fact increases the size of those protein particles. The larger the particles the less likely they are to embed in the lining.

Exercise helps decrease the chance cholesterol builds up as plaque in your blood vessels.

 

If you have gotten the bad news that your cholesterol levels are high you have a few options. You can start taking Lipitor or other pharmaceutical options to combat it (which drug companies love because they don’t correct the problem and thus you will keep using them), you can make dietary changes, or you can start a great exercise program.

Bullying in School: What Every Parent Should Know

Are your kids dealing with bullying this school year?

Now that kids are half way through another school year, are yours dealing with bullying?  Is the school “handling” the situation properly?  It is the law in New Jersey that every school offers some type of anti-bully program. This is a great concept on paper but it really depends on what is being taught.  Honestly the only way for bullying to be “handled” is for the victim to stand up for them self.  Period.

Most schools say there is no bullying or have embraced a zero tolerance policy when it comes to bullying. What exactly does that mean? Not only does it mean that bullying will not be tolerated, it also means defending yourself against bullying will not be tolerated. The kids are taught that they should ignore the bully or try to befriend them or make them laugh and that they should tell the teacher. We were all in school once and experienced or saw bullying first hand and we know these tactics don’t work. Bullies pick on kids they deem weak and trying to stop bullying using the above methods will only make the victim seem weaker.

What the schools don’t realize and what must be taught is an equal and assertive response to whatever level of aggression the bully is displaying. There are 3 levels of bullying and the appropriate response to each must be learned and followed through on. We must teach our children to stand up for themselves the way we would stand up as adults. This is the only effective way to handle bullying.

This sounds easier than it is. It takes confidence to stand up to a bully. One of the main building blocks of confidence is the security that comes with knowing how to defend yourself. Why would someone choose to back down to a bully? Simply because they are afraid that they will get hurt. When you learn to defend yourself you lose that fear and build the confidence to stop anyone from taking advantage of you. This is not only true of kids in school but adults as well. Statistical studies have shown that people who know self defense carry themselves more confidently and are less likely to be harassed or intimidated in the first place.

It all boils down to the fact that the anti-bullying programs in schools are unrealistic and ineffective. The only true way to handle bullies is to stand up for yourself. As a parent ask yourself this question. If a bully just punched your child in the face what would you want them to do?
