USKA – Sunnybrook Ballroom PA

6/13/15 – Pottstown, PA

Hamburg Fight Night has long been center stage for the fighters of the TSMMA Pennsylvania Fight Team. Irv Althouse’s USKA has long been the preeminent kickboxing event in the Keystone state.

Saturday night the promotion moved a few miles away to Pottstown, PA. The change in venue didn’t change the particpitation of the fighters under Shihan James Simspon. Sempai Bob Smith, Gerry DeJesus and Liz Mooring laced up the gloves and slid on the shinguards  to test their skills against the best fighters along the east coast.

Bobby Smith entered the ring first looking to build off two stoppage victories.  The 17 year old TSMMA Feasterville student has been training under Simpson for two years. If his first two victories are any indication it is working. He stopped his first opponent via knockout due to lowkicks. Number two was a tko due to front kicks.

None of that deterred his opponent Rob Good from stepping into the ring. The Bitner Thai Fighter looked game before the fight but that didn’t last very long as the opening front kick from Smith was followed by a quick succesion of straight punches and a round kick to the body before the first standing eight count from referee Keith Peterson. Good said he was ready to go but Smith jumped right back on him and ended the fight only :36 seconds in via tko ref stoppage.

Another amazing display by the 17 year old TSMMA Feasterville student.

Allentown’s Gerry DeJesus was up next looking to build off an impressive victory two months ago in Hamburg.

That moved the young fireballs record to 1-1 after an exciting debut fight he narrowly lost. Saturday in Pottstown he looked to add another digit to the win column. Initially things looked promising for the young TSMMA Allentown fighter as he fired straight punches at Brahiam Felipe. Felipe caught DeJesus with a right hand left hook combo late in Round 1 though and it forced a standing eight count. DeJesus was game but the fight was stopped during the break between rounds. DeJesus lost the fight but continues to show marked improvement each time he steps in the ring.

Finally it marked the debut of Liz Mooring of TSMMA Bethlehem. She fought her 122 pound fight as an exhibition but displayed crisp technique continuing to go back to a Double Jab, Cross, Low Kick that was effective throughout the fight. The fight was an exhibition so didn’t get judges scores, but did show the fans of Team TSMMA Pennsylvania yet another fighter to look out for in the future.
