Tiger Schulmann’s Upper East Side has helped thousands of members of all ages build full-body fitness, develop a lasting community, and inspire positive change inside and out. Located on 1st Avenue in the Upper East Side, New York, Tiger Schulmann’s Upper East Side is building a community through kickboxing and martial arts.
At Upper East Side, our members learn more than punch-kick karate. They develop total mind-body fitness. Our proven curriculum, developed by Master Tiger Schulmann over 36 years ago, instills valuable life skills — focus, self-discipline and a non-quitting spirit — that empowers members to take on new opportunities with confidence. Unlike other gyms, you’re not in it alone. “We are doing it together,” says Sensei Juan Vides. “And we’re here to help you realize your potential, both on the mat and in life.”

“The best part about training with us is that all you need to do is show up. At a gym you need to get there, figure out what to do, motivate yourself, it can be a lot to do especially after a long day of work. Our classes offer the highest level of instruction and professionalism. I make sure all of our members never feel lost during a class.”
As a first-generation Latin American immigrant, Juan was initially bullied when he moved into his new neighborhood. Overweight and with no direction Juan chose to study Martial Arts at Tiger Schulmann’s and it turned his life around. Through his training, he built his confidence, got in amazing shape and is now the Kickboxing Champion in the ECF. Juan takes those tough early experiences with him to every class he teaches, “I make sure every new student feels welcome and that they belong.” says Joshu Vides.
Juan loves competing, but teaching and helping people grow is his passion, “I want my school to be a sanctuary for all ages. Where children can learn to be mentally and physically strong, teenagers can learn to be confident and make long-lasting friendships, and adults can escape from their daily routine while getting in the best shape of their lives!”
