Prior to her starting school she expressed interest in going to Tiger Schulmann’s MMA and after a significant bullying event, we enrolled her.
Before Selena started with Mixed Martial Arts she was a very timid and easily pushed around child. Being smaller than most of the kids in her grade at school and suffering from ADHD, she was a target of some of the bigger and more mature children. Prior to her starting school she expressed interest in going to Tiger Schulmann’s MMA and after a significant bullying event, we enrolled her. She has taken to it like a fish to water.
Since she started with grappling and kickboxing her confidence level has skyrocketed.
Since she started with grappling and kickboxing her confidence level has skyrocketed. She is no longer a pushover and stands up for herself and for other children on a regular basis. She knows that confrontations are better settled with words and that just by sticking up for yourself or someone else the bully usually backs down. However, she is confident enough to know (should something become physical) that she is capable of handling the situation that way as well.
Since Selena started taking martial arts classes, her schoolwork has continually improved.
She had started school behind many of her peers due to some unfortunate choices made by her school, but since second grade she has not only caught up, but in most subjects she is ahead of her peers. She’s still a very quiet personality, but embraces everyone and gives all a second chance. She’s not intimidated by her class mates and is always willing to help out younger kids. She is constantly striving to improve and her work ethic is very good.
She recently got a major role in her first school play audition.
Since training in Mixed Martial Arts, at home, we do not have to remind her to do her homework or to study. She knows that she only has a certain amount of free time each day and that her work comes first. She has become not only a very good student but a very confident person. She recently got a major role in her first school play audition. I am not sure that she would have had the belief in herself to even tryout if she had not had the confidence instilled in her by Sensei Querido and Sensei Holland. I would also like to express that a number of other people at Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts have helped inspire her as well, including Joshu Daryl Haze, Joshu Stephen Regman, Sensei Gaudinot, Sempai Nico Walls, Sempai Shaina Murray, Andy Greenspan and Charlotte Finnerty.
Selena over these last few years has gone from a somewhat chubby child who was afraid and picked on to a physically fit kid. She is always ready to learn and is willing to put in the time and effort it takes to improve. We are looking forward to seeing her continued progress.
Sincerely,
Doris and Stuart (Loving parents)
