Challenge-of-Champions rego

The following is a testimonial from a Parent who has been bringing their 2 kids to Tiger Schulmann’s MMA in Rego Park for over a year now. They recently competed at this year’s Challenge of Champions on Sunday, June 2nd. They share their experience of how competing and going to martial arts have changed their kids for the better…

“Marvin and I would like to say thank you to the Rego Park staff for the valuable life long lessons are children are learning.”

Yesterday, both Kayla and Brandon showed perseverance in the face of adversity. While it was very hard for me to see Brandon lose himself during his first match which nearly cost him the opportunity to advance. However he was able to pull it together in the end. When asked what did he learn from the experience he stated “I should never lose my focus and calm even when things get hard.” The first kid really gave him a workout and he became frustrated very easily.

I saw a focus and determination in him to become better. I saw his confidence build.

After his match, whenever I looked for Brandon, he was not running around the place but watching the other matches closely behind Rego Park. He was taking it all in and picking up strategies. I saw a focus and determination in him to become better. I saw his confidence build.

She now sees why she has to train more and push herself

Kayla definitely had to step up her game because her last competitor was tough. I saw her becoming flustered also. However she was able to pull through but it wasn’t easy. She now sees why she has to train more and push herself. She is a very low key person naturally who always excels academically. She is a natural brain when it comes to school but MMA challenges outside her comfort zone. I need her to know what it feels like to not be perfect at something but to experience failure and not fall apart. She is definitely learning that in class. There are many days she wants to quit but we continue to push her beyond her comfort zone.

Thank you for the continued life lessons and building on the values we work to instill in our children.
