The UFC’s flyweight division is kicking off quickly in 2012, and the promotion’s third event on network television today received a second 125-pound affair.
UFC officials today announced that Louis Gaudinot (5-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and John Lineker (19-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will meet at UFC on FOX 3.
Verbal agreements are in place for the matchup, and bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.
UFC on FOX 3 takes place May 5 at IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J. The main card airs on FOX, and prelims are expected to air on FUEL TV. Gaudinot vs. Lineker likely will be part of the prelims.
Nate Diaz and Jim Miller meet in a five-round non-title main event.
Gaudinot seeks his first official UFC win after dropping a bantamweight matchup against fellow “The Ultimate Fighter 14” cast member Johnny Bedford at the season’s live finale. At 5-foot-3, Gaudinot’s natural weightclass is at 125 pounds, but the Team Tiger Schulmann product moved up for a shot at “TUF” success.
Gaudinot did advance to the quarterfinals of “TUF 14” but was eliminated by Dustin Pague.
Meanwhile, Lineker makes his UFC debut. The Brazilian has been competing professionally since 2008 and since opening his career with a pedestrian 6-5 record (including a loss to current UFC fighter Felipe Arantes), Lineker has since reeled off 13-straight wins. In 2011, alone, Lineker posted a 7-0 mark that included four first-round finishes.
Three of Lineker’s five career losses have come via decision.
