Jacob and David may have autism but they have learned to overcome mental and physical obstacles in their training to achieve and succeed.

Training at Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts has benefited the boys in many ways. They are stronger, more agile, have better stamina and better balance. Both boys are more self confident at school and at home. They began training almost two years ago. The training keeps them on a strict schedule which is extremely important to children with autism. Structure in the training sessions is also very important, they know what to expect (in general) in each class.
Being children with Autism did not stop Jacob and David from earning their high blue belts and learning to have a non-quitting spirit it has helped them at home

Since training, both boys have learned how to ride bicycles, which takes a lot of balance

At home, when the boys come back from training, they are very calm.  Since training, both boys have learned how to ride bicycles, which takes a lot of balance. David was more confident in transitioning from elementary school to middle school knowing that he had the skills to defend himself if he were to get bullied. The boys like being a part of the Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts family.  They feel comfortable in the gym and with the other kids.

Jacob has gained more self-confidence which has certainly helped him socially inside and outside of school and for a child with Autism he has gained better focus and listening skills.

Since beginning his training he has learned how to be a part of the group and to follow the instructions.

Jacob has made a lot of social gains.  In general, Jacob does not speak much but after he trains he is more willing to talk and share his day. In the past before Tiger Schulmann’s, Jacob could not join a group of children in a class outside of school.  He was not able to pay attention to the rules of the class or understand the instructions given by the leader or teacher. Since beginning his training he has learned how to be a part of the group and to follow the instructions.  He tries hard to pay attention and follow the strict rules when training on the mat.

As a parent of special needs children, I have tried many different activities and groups for my children to join that would embrace them as they are with their unique needs.

As a parent of special needs children, I have tried many different activities and groups for my children to join that would embrace them as they are with their unique needs.  We are blessed to have found both Sensei Querido and Sensei Holland for taking on the challenge of working with my children. They have wonderful patience and understanding of my children.  They have taken the time to get to know them and their needs to help them become successful with their training.  With training, the children’s self esteem has grown immensely. They are very proud of themselves and their accomplishments and it is all thanks, in no small part, due to the loving kindness of Sensei Querido and Sensei Holland.
Warm regards,
