TSMMA Bay Ridge Student Success Story
BY: Bayridge TSMMA
Growing up I was always playing sports and even went on to play tennis for my college team for four years. After finishing school I missed that push to train hard and exhaust myself physically like I had grown accustomed to over the years. On a whim a good friend mentioned something about Tiger, she was like “eh its $20 for a two class trial program…” I figured, I love working out, its 20 bucks and no commitment, I’ll give it a try. I instantly fell in love with the sport! Never having had any background in kickboxing I was never made to feel inadequate for being a beginner, you’re reassured to simply work at your own pace and focus on the technique. Eventually you learn to build up and move faster and stronger.
Well, to make a long story short, here I am three years later and I could never be happier. Training is one of the most important things in my life today and has impacted my life in so many ways! I have lost over 20lbsand have gained more muscle than I could have dreamed of, and training is by far the beststress reliever I’ve ever found! No matter how wonderful or horrible day I may have had, I just get on the mat and train, after that hour of class I’m on top of the world again.
Never in my life did I ever think I’d be able to fight the way I can, believe it or not I can definitely keep up with the boys. Living in New York you never know, doesn’t matter what area or neighborhood you’re in, anything can happen, it’s just the reality of living in a big city. For a 24 year old girl to say she is 100%confidentwalking down the street, unafraid of anyone whether it be male or female trying to assault them is a very rare feeling few women are able to genuinely have.
I am so grateful to my instructors and to my training partners. They continue to push me to levels I never dreamed possible. They’ve pushed me to compete and with Sensei Levy’s intensity on the mat he just ignites you with the passion that you can tell he embodies for the sport and the lifestyle. He is in my opinion probably one of the best instructors in the entire organization and many others can attest to that! When he’s on the mat it’s impossible for class to be boring! He constantly keeps the class hyped and he knows how to work with students at any level in their training no matter how beginner or advanced. The entire staff- Joshu Serio, Joshu Pace, Tyrone and Rashaad are constantly pushing me to reach new goals and are always there to lend a helping hand or help teach me something new! I am forever thankful for what Tiger has brought to my life.
