MMA stands for, “Mixed Martial Arts.”

Initially, we might want to ask, “Why are they mixed? Why not focus on one style? Why not keep things traditional?”

Let’s take a look at traditional Martial Arts first. Ultimately, each of the traditional Martial Arts formed to solve varying hand-to-hand combat styles the practitioner faced. They were never meant to be recreational. They were practical for their time and application. Regardless of whether they were weapon-based styles (i.e. swords, staffs, javelins, etc.) or the pure use of hands, feet, takedowns, grappling… They all shared one common tradition, a basic set of principles.

What every Martial Art has, is a common philosophy of mind-body development

THE TRADITIONAL PRINCIPLES OF ALL MARTIAL ARTS

What every Martial Art has, is a common philosophy of mind-body development through self-discipline, focus, practice, achievement, overcoming obstacles, respect for self and others, wisdom, honor and the ability to challenge one’s self to excel in every aspect of life.

Tiger Schulmann’s MMA maintains this crucial set of principles throughout every class, regardless of age, gender or ability level.

Tiger Schulmann’s instructors have an average of 15 years of intense, regular training; 10 years at minimum.

Another common factor is… learning the art from a well-respected authority who is highly trained and knowledgeable.

Tiger Schulmann’s instructors have an average of 15 years of intense, regular training; 10 years at minimum. Not only do they have this formidable amount of experience… to remain an instructor, every week they must continue training under Master Tiger Schulmann directly. They assist one another with maintaining a current state of knowledge regarding the arts. In addition, they continually learn modern sciences associated with body-mechanics, fitness developments, and advanced dietary health.

WHY NOT FOCUS ON ONE STYLE? WHY ARE THEY MIXED?

They are mixed to create a well-rounded, fun and highly-effective fitness program coupled with the most practical self-defense techniques for today’s world.

We live in a modern society. No one’s walking around with swords, combat staffs, javelins, charging at us on horseback, etc. So, we can put the weapons-based Martial Arts aside in terms of practicality.

When we study Martial arts disciplines, we find that they, “specialize.” Some schools specialize in kicking techniques. Others specialize in a combination of “striking” and “blocking” techniques (using hands, elbows, feet, shins, knees). Still other branches delve into takedowns, throws, and grappling (on the ground, forcing an opponent into submission by leveraging their limbs and or choking them unconscious).

Now, consider that Tiger Schulmann’s MMA (under the constant guidance of Master Tiger Schulmann), has a pool of over 50 highly-trained instructors.  Every one has dedicated their lives to excelling in and training people in the most effective Martial arts and fitness techniques. They have carefully studied what works best at every distance.
