Karate is ultimately described as a standing style of martial arts that focuses on punching, kicking, blocks and takedowns. However, being that there are multiple techniques that come along with each aspect of this discipline, several different types of karate have developed as the sport has progressed. Today, we invite you to learn more about this particular activity by discovering the various types of karate instruction available at martial arts schools:
Chito-ryu:? Chito-ryu is a style of karate that was first developed in Japan in 1946. The techniques that accompany this approach focus on the lower body; specifically the fast rotation, tension and relaxation that it must exhibit.
Wado-ryu:? Also developed in Japan, Wado-ryu is a form of karate that blends grappling techniques from jiu jitsu and striking techniques from the art of Shotokan. It was created by Hironori Otsuka and officially entered the martial arts world prior to World War II.
Kyokushinkai:? Developed in 1964, this style is one of the most difficult. When competing in this discipline, fighters primarily win by knock downs or knockouts - their training certainly prepares them to deliver intense blows to their competitors!
